Focus on Environment

The plant has been designed in accordance with internationally recognised standards based on Best Available Technology (BATNEEC).

A significant part of the investments have been dedicated to protecting the environment.

Incineration of vents and liquid by-products of the EDC/VCM plant.
Process water from the oxychlorination treated in a Biological Waste Water Treatment Unit
Gas Turbines equipped with low NOx burners
No liquid chlorine storage
Monitoring of ambient air, groundwater, sea water and sea bed sediments
Vapour return from storage tanks and loading ships sent to incineration

In addition QVC is operating the plant in accordance with a renewable Consent To Operate (CO) issued by the local Supreme Council for the Environment and Natural Reserves (SCENR). With 40 emissions being monitored at various frequencies the data is compiled and reported to the Authorities on a quarterly basis. QVC has adopted the ISO 14001 standard as a guideline for environmental management.
